What the tradition gives Scorpio: Mars as its ruler (Pluto in modern astrology), water as its element, and planets that are stronger or weaker in it. What it can’t give: your days—those depend on your whole chart.
How the rulebook reads Scorpio
Pluto rules Scorpio in modern practice, and it is one of the planets our rulebook deliberately leaves out of its dignity tables: the classical scheme gives Pluto no sign to rule, so its condition never scales a score. Mars, Scorpio’s traditional ruler, does—a transiting Mars moving through Scorpio is in its own sign, and our astrology engine counts that contact for more than the same aspect from a Mars with no dignity.
In Scorpio, Mars is in domicile; Venus is in detriment and the Moon is in fall. Those conditions are the whole of what a sign does to a transiting body in our rulebook—the same dignity table the scoring reads, which is why a transit from a planet in its own sign counts for more than the identical angle from one with nothing here.
Right now Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto, is in Aquarius—and being an outer planet it has no dignity in any sign, which is why the rulebook never scales it.
The other thing a sign gives our astrology engine is geometry. Every transit stands in a whole-sign relation to Scorpio—conjunct, sextile, square, trine or opposite—and that relation is fixed by the sign alone, so it is computable without knowing anything else about you. The dated lines above are exactly that, and exactly its limit.
