What a sign gives the engine—and what it doesn't
Neptune rules Pisces in modern practice, and it is one of the planets our rulebook deliberately leaves out of its dignity tables: the classical scheme gives Neptune no sign to rule, so its condition never scales a score. Jupiter, Pisces’s traditional ruler, does—a transiting Jupiter moving through Pisces is in its own sign, and our astrology engine counts that contact for more than the same aspect from a Jupiter with no dignity.
In Pisces, Jupiter is in domicile and Venus is exalted; Mercury is in detriment and Mercury is in fall. Those conditions are the whole of what a sign does to a transiting body in our rulebook—the same dignity table the scoring reads, which is why a transit from a planet in its own sign counts for more than the identical angle from one with nothing here.
Right now Pisces’ ruler, Neptune, is in Aries, retrograde—and being an outer planet it has no dignity in any sign, which is why the rulebook never scales it.
The other thing a sign gives our astrology engine is geometry. Every transit stands in a whole-sign relation to Pisces—conjunct, sextile, square, trine or opposite—and that relation is fixed by the sign alone, so it is computable without knowing anything else about you. The dated lines above are exactly that, and exactly its limit.
Pisces is a water sign, with Cancer and Scorpio. That is a fact about the sign and not about the scoring: our rulebook has no element term in it at all. The dated list above is computed for Pisces alone, and it comes out different for Cancer and Scorpio—same element, different geometry.
