What a sign gives our astrology engine—and what it doesn't
What the tradition gives Aries: Mars as its ruler, fire as its element, and planets that are stronger or weaker in it. What it can’t give: your days—those depend on your whole chart.
How the rulebook reads Aries
Mars rules Aries, and that matters to the scoring in one specific way—not the way most sun-sign writing implies. Nothing gives Mars extra weight because you are Aries; the scoring never reads your Sun sign at all. What it does read is the transiting planet’s own condition: a Mars moving through Aries is in domicile, and our astrology engine counts that contact for more than the same aspect from a Mars with no dignity.
In Aries, Mars is in domicile and the Sun is exalted; Venus is in detriment and Saturn is in fall. Those conditions are the whole of what a sign does to a transiting body in our rulebook—the same dignity table the scoring reads, which is why a transit from a planet in its own sign counts for more than the identical angle from one with nothing here.
Right now Aries’ ruler, Mars, is in Leo, holding no dignity either way there.
The other thing a sign gives our astrology engine is geometry. Every transit stands in a whole-sign relation to Aries—conjunct, sextile, square, trine or opposite—and that relation is fixed by the sign alone, so it is computable without knowing anything else about you.
