What a sign gives the engine—and what it doesn't
Uranus rules Aquarius in modern practice, and it is one of the planets our rulebook deliberately leaves out of its dignity tables: the classical scheme gives Uranus no sign to rule, so its condition never scales a score. Saturn, Aquarius’s traditional ruler, does—a transiting Saturn moving through Aquarius is in its own sign, and our astrology engine counts that contact for more than the same aspect from a Saturn with no dignity.
In Aquarius, Saturn is in domicile; the Sun is in detriment, and no planet falls here. Those conditions are the whole of what a sign does to a transiting body in our rulebook—the same dignity table the scoring reads, which is why a transit from a planet in its own sign counts for more than the identical angle from one with nothing here.
Right now Aquarius’ ruler, Uranus, is in Gemini, retrograde—and being an outer planet it has no dignity in any sign, which is why the rulebook never scales it.
The other thing a sign gives our astrology engine is geometry.
